The Pleasure of Taking Our Time

A little Liberty indulgence, and a thought about what makes an evening memorable.

Hello,

A recent trip to Liberty left me with the very pleasant problem of deciding what to make first. I was thoroughly spoilt in the fabric department and came home with plenty to choose from.

Something Worth Taking Time Over

I settled on a botanical Tana Lawn for a dress. It was so lovely that I wanted to get it right, so I made test pieces, had fittings and adjusted things before I made the first cut.

That might sound like an awful lot of preparation for one dress. But I enjoyed it. I could notice what worked, change what didn’t, and look forward to seeing it come together. Now that it’s finished, it’s one of my favourite things I’ve made.

The Part Before

It got me thinking about how much of the pleasure of an evening happens before you reach the place you were supposedly going.

Getting dressed. Meeting for a drink. Finding that dinner has turned into a conversation neither of us wants to end. Perhaps a show, and then the walk afterwards when we’re still talking about it. Those moments make the rest of the night feel like ours, rather than something we’ve hurried towards.

I do love a plan. I just like it even more when there’s enough time for it to take a turn we didn’t expect.

Shall we Make a Plan?

I’m making plans for the end of September and into October. If you’ve been thinking about seeing me, tell me what you’d enjoy: dinner and a show, a long evening together, or perhaps an overnight that lets us take our time the next morning, too.

And if you have an idea I haven’t thought of, I’d love to hear it.

A x
